Why I'm Running
Why I'm Running
-
Healthcare Access & Medicaid Expansion
Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Expanding healthcare saves lives, creates jobs, and strengthens communities.
• I will advocate for Medicaid expansion to cover hundreds of thousands of uninsured Alabamians. Alabama is 1 of 10 states that have not expanded Medicaid.
• Fight to keep rural hospitals open and properly funded
• Ensure access to mental health services and preventative care

-
Maternal Health & Reproductive Care
Alabama’s maternal mortality crisis is unacceptable, especially for Black women.
• Address Alabama’s maternal mortality rate, one of the highest in the nation
• Prioritize maternal health, where Black women are dying at disproportionately high rates. No woman should die giving life.
• Protect access to reproductive and prenatal care, including OB-GYN services
• Support maternal health programs, doulas, midwives, and postpartum care
• Advocate for policies that keep OB-GYNs practicing in Alabama

-
Economic Development & Small Business Growth
Alabama’s economy should work for everybody, not just corporations.
• Support small businesses with access to state grants, low-interest loans, and technical assistance
• Advocate for equitable distribution of economic development dollars, especially in historically neglected communities

-
Voting Rights & Democracy Protection
Democracy should be accessible, not obstructed. Your vote should be protected, respected, and easy to cast.
• Advocate for an Alabama Voting Rights Act
• Push for early voting (Alabama is one of only three states without it)
• Support no-excuse absentee voting
• Oppose voter suppression tactics and unfair redistricting
• Expand voter education and voter protection efforts

-
Environmental Justice & Clean Water
Where you live should not determine how safe your water or air is. Clean water and clean air are basic human rights.
• Address environmental racism in Black and low-income communities
• Ensure access to clean drinking water and infrastructure investment
• Hold polluters accountable
• Support community-led environmental monitoring and transparency
• Protect land, waterways, and public health

-
Criminal Justice Reform & Public Safety
Safety and justice must go hand in hand. Justice should heal communities, not harm them.
• End mass incarceration and modern-day systems exploitation
• Support sentencing reform and alternatives to incarceration
• Invest in reentry programs, job training, and mental health support
• Shift resources toward prevention, not punishment

Education & Youth Investment
Our children deserve opportunity, not underfunded systems. Education is the foundation of economic freedom.
Fully fund public schools
Support teachers and education workers earning a fair, sustainable salary
Invest in after-school programs, mentorship, and youth leadership
Reduce the school-to-prison pipeline
